The Ultimate Brainteaser: Mini Rubik’s Cube

History

Invented in 1934 by a Hungarian sculpture and professor of architecture, Erno Rubik, the Rubik’s cube didn’t reach its height of mainstream popularity until the 1980s. More than 350 million cubes have been sold worldwide, confirming it as the world’s top-selling puzzle game.

Test Your Skills

A traditional Rubik’s Cube as well as our mini Rubik’s cube is covered by nine stickers on all six of its faces. Each sticker is either white, red, blue, orange, green or yellow. To solve it, you must bring all the squares of the same color to one face of the cube, and replicate this for all six colors on all six faces. There are 43 quintillion (43,000,000,000,000,000,000) possible combinations, only one of these being the right one. Erno Rubik, the inventor, even took a month to solve his own puzzle, using it as part of his teaching course. It helped students understand spatial relationships by not only making it fun, but making it challenging.

Keep Your Brain Sharp

The Rubik’s cube is an open-ended, three-dimensional puzzle that is both straightforward and honest; there are no tricks to it - no way to cheat. It requires no user’s manual, rule book, instructions or wifi, because all of the information is already available in front of you. The only requirement is concentration, good focus and a whole lot of determination to crack the puzzle. Luck is entirely out of the equation, and solving it relies strongly on the art of observing patterns. Every time a Rubik’s cube is picked up, you will arrive at its solution in a different way.

Using a Rubik’s cube is proven to improve hand-eye coordination as well as concentration in general, speeding up your thoughts, cognitive function and problem-solving skills. It is known to encourage a combination of life lessons like patience, perseverance and observation. However, aside from visualization, it also tests the analytical and abstract abilities involved in recognizing images and relating it to the other objects in its surroundings. This is also important for improving your short-term memory and your overall thought processing.

Why the World’s Smallest Rubik’s Cube is the Brain-Teaser for You
