Also known as the Atlantic blue crab and the Chesapeake blue crab, the blue crab is common species of crab found throughout the western Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. As their name suggests, they can easily be identified by their vibrant blue color.

Also called the Bluespotted Ribbontail ray, this colorful creature is found in the Indian and western Pacific Oceans. It gets its name from the electric blue spots on its back.
Scientific Name: Taeniura lymma
Characteristics: More than just a simple coloration, the bluespotted ray’s unique physical appearance serves as a warning for the venomous spines on its tail. The venomous barbs usually remain hidden unless the ray intends to use them, but with careful observation of this hand painted figurine you just might spot them!

A relatively small type of fish endemic to the reefs and shallow lagoons of the Indian and Pacific oceans, there are over 30 different species of anemonefish. The different species can have many different colorations, although the most iconic is the orange body and white stripes of the orange anemonefish!
History: Most anemonefish are actually protandrous hermaphrodites, which means they can alternate between both genders throughout their lives. Anemonefish have this adaptation so that their breeding groups are never disrupted, regardless of whether or not specific members are removed. Commonly dispersed throughout the western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, cownose rays are a species of eagle ray that can grow to be just under four feet long. Although not particularly dangerous, cownose rays can use the barb on their tail to deliver a fairly weak toxin.

Characteristics: Despite their potentially surprising sting, we promise this model is safe to touch! Like all Safari wildlife figurines, our cownose ray model was individually hand painted and crafted with lifelike detail.

Frogfish employ special camouflage to perfectly blend in with their habitat. Depending on the species, they can resemble coral, stones, sea sponges, sargassum seaweed, or urchins. They use lures on their head to draw their prey in close, then use their mouths to suck them in like a vacuum.
History: Frogfish are experts at mimicry, which assists them not only in catching prey, but also hiding from predators, since their lack of scales makes them quite vulnerable. They’re a popular choice in aquariums, where they’re widely known as “anglers”, due to the fleshy lure (actually a modified dorsal fin) that they use to attract prey. They belong to the order Lophiiformes, which also includes deep-sea anglerfish and goosefishes.

Characteristics: This professionally-sculpted and hand-painted model captures the Giant Pacific Octopus’ sprawling body, including its eight arms lined with hooked suction cups, striking yellow eyes, and expansive head.
